Holiday cheer is in the air! With twinkling lights, festive decorations, and cozy candles, the season is full of warmth and joy. But, it's important to celebrate safely to avoid turning your holiday into a fire hazard.

The American Red Cross offers these simple tips to keep your home and loved ones safe:

• Keep a Safe Distance: Place Christmas trees, candles, and other decorations at least three feet away from heat sources like fireplaces, heaters, and vents.
• Check Your Lights: Ensure that light strings and decorations are in good condition. Avoid using anything with frayed cords and always follow the manufacturer's instructions.
• Unplug and Extinguish: Remember to unplug all lights and extinguish candles before leaving the room or going to bed.
• A Steady Tree: Use a sturdy tree stand to prevent tipping. Keep curious pets and children away from the tree.
• Kitchen Safety: Keep flammable items like pot holders, oven mitts, and paper products away from your stovetop.
• Candle Vigilance: Designate a responsible person to check for extinguished candles and smoking materials after parties.
